Yesterday, my family and I embarked on a running journey. Nothing big, nothing crazy, but just the right touch of balance, understanding and impact.
This past Friday, after days of complications, we learned that our new blessing, whom would be our third child, would not carry a heartbeat, and would not get a chance to fully develop. Heartbroken we were.. heartbroken we are.
Our two children have seen us run countless times, but this particular run was again a reminder, of just how powerful running can be not only for yourself mentally, but for others strength as well. It was the exact purpose of why we started Root Runners. After explaining to them that they would follow dad from our house to Root Runners and what it represented and why, even our youngest, Emma, who is three years old, was filled with excitement and renewal.
I decided to run 11 miles, with a starting temperature of 11 degrees, to represent the 11 weeks that my wife and family were expecting to welcome another crazy, loving, adventurous spirit into the world. My family leap frogged me along the way, from our front door, to the front door of Root Runners, which was exactly 11 miles, weird right? and filled my soul again with the purpose in which I run, and in which no medication, no alcohol or substance can ever recreate.
